I’ve been a patron of Shogun, a Japanese buffet restaurant at 1 Utama for a couple of times now. The most recent visit there was just over the weekend and I have to say that after a long while of not visiting the restaurant, I find vast improvements to the Japanese buffet spread offered.

 If you love Sashimi and Sushi, Shogun is the like a heaven for you. They have a huge counter serving an assortment of Shasimi/Sushi ranging from cod fish and salmon to Abalone Sushi ... You are also served with some luxurious seafood like crabs, fish (cod fish, salmon, dory etc) and clams cooked in various flavors and spices. I also tried their lamb and I loved it! ... If you ask me, I would love to go again! And remember to go with empty stomach and have a fun filled gastronomical adventure!

Shogun surprised me with its incredible variety of Japanese food. From sushi to teppanyaki, Shogun had all the elements of a true Japanese lunch. The sushi was available fresh and there was a wide selection. Some dishes had to be personally ordered so that customers can consume the food at the highest level of freshness possible ... We now have a rotating menu so customers won’t get bored. We ensure everything is freshly made and we constantly replenish empty trays ... Chefs at the sushi counter are kept constantly busy slicing fish and shaping sushi which disappear quickly. Tuna comes from the Maldives and salmon from Norway ... There’s butterfish and crab too as well as freshly shucked Australian oysters at the next counter. The molluscs come topped with cheese and baked, just like the escargots. I love the shishamo and pumpkin prawns. The chawan mushi (steamed egg custard) is slippery smooth and flavoursome.
~ Eat: More than just Japanese (NST 14th Sept 2011) Nested on the ground floor of the trendy mall, Shogun offers a comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere, luscious variety of food and a selection of Japanese wines for the discerning diners ... the person responsible for the mouth-watering buffet is chef Tamby Shah who has 18 years of experience in Japanese culinary. Tamby has been with Shogun since it started in 1999 ... Tamby summarised that every dish has its complexities and he strongly recommends that we try everything from Japanese to the sumptuous Chinese soups and dim sum, to the western lamb shank and beef tail.
