After 3 lovely days in Penang we thought it would be a good idea to escape from the crowds and traffic on our return to Langkawi, where better than on the top of Langkawi's highest mountain, Gunung Raya.

On arrival we received a warm welcome from the staff and we were upgraded by the hotel manager from the basic room we booked up to the deluxe suite! The deluxe suite rooms are massive and airy. The decoration is nothing too fancy, but tasteful, the shower/toilet was modern and everywhere was spotlessly clean. However the real highlight of these rooms is the massive balcony with stunning views of Kuah town, the sea and the surrounding islands. A troupe of shy Dusky Leaf Langur monkeys set up camp in the trees surrounding our balcony and just really set the tone.

It's a long way to the hotel since it is located at the top of the hill and not quite easy to get food of your choice because there's no nearby stall sellling things you need. Would be a bit difficult for those who do not know how to drive because the taxi fare from the jetty to the hotel would cost about RM 100.00 more or less. Better to hire a car which costs you about RM 120.00 (VIOS) a day. However, this place would be a splendid one for those who quest for quietness, and a great place to immerse yourself with nature. Things are so calm up there and it's refreshing to be breathing such fresh air. I would definitely recommend this place to nature lovers and those who would like to find solace in themselves.It's calm, peaceful and serene up there!
