Reasons to Use Additives in Paints

Default

In today’s article, we will let you go through some A+ reasons to use additives in paints. Different additives in paints perform different functions and help to enhance the overall quality of the paint. These additives help the paint to work as anti-fungal and algae resistant, last for a longer time, anti-foaming agent, levelling, etc. Many additives are added to the paint and these additives can easily be obtained by the best chemical suppliers in Malaysia.

Many additives work as anti-foaming agents, emulsifiers, thickeners, anti setting agents, wetting and dispersing agents, effluent treatment additives, shine creating agents, etc. Coatings these days are getting complex which needs thickeners, emulsifiers, dispersants, pigments, defoamers, levelling agents, light stabilizers, curing catalysts, and other additives. All these additives improve the intrinsic properties of the resin.

The additive, Methylcellulose, helps in preventing paint pigments from settling. This gives paints smoothness, consistency, and improves adherence to milk paint. The hardening of lime and improvement of the opening time of grouts is also enhanced by the Methylcellulose. Methylcellulose helps in protecting grouts and paints from over dryness as well.

One can also use acrylic paints or thixotropic agent paints. The acrylic paints have acrylic emulsion that forms a water-resistant film after drying out and the acrylic emulsion is usually used as paint additives to improve the abrasion resistance, resistance to fungi and algae, and improving the washability of the paint.

Choosing the appropriate anti-foaming agent is essential to ensure the quality of the paint. For this purpose, it is crucial to study thoroughly the behavior of such additives. The anti-foaming agents or defoamers help the paint to hide unevenness or flaws of the walls. Always check if your paint has an anti-foaming agent in it or not.

Titanium dioxide in paint is usually used as a white pigment. Its main work is to create white color. It is such a strong additive that only a micrometre-sized titanium dioxide is enough to cause a white color. In paints, only a nano-scale titanium dioxide works as a UV filter and protects the bonding material of the paints.

The aluminium paste sheet coatings provide a bright and glossy appearance in the paints due to the spectral and diffuse reflectivity. The Aluminum paste has a high buoyancy and coating capacity. The coating reflects light and heat away from the substrate and is, therefore, suitable for heat resistant applications. This can save your house walls from extra heat and sun damage.
