How To Choose Fittings: Make Your Selection In Light of The Details
Default
High reliability, functionality and long service life of the pipeline largely depend on the quality of the installation work. A special role in this is played by the connecting elements, with the help of which the pipelines are assembled. Therefore, it is important to have an idea of how to choose fittings for the installation of the most popular types of pipes today.
Fittings for PP pipes
Polypropylene pipes are mounted using SGP fittings malaysia, which are also made of polypropylene. The connection is carried out by soldering, as a result of which a sealed seam is created, which is not inferior in its properties to the main material.
It is recommended to choose fittings of the same brand as the PPR pipes from which the pipeline is installed. Also, when choosing, the diameter of the pipes used is taken into account. Depending on the purpose, the following types of fittings are distinguished:
- Couplings for connecting pipes of the same diameter;
- Couplings for connecting pipes of different diameters;
- Corners and bends;
- Crosses and tees;
Plugs installed at the end of the pipeline.
Fittings for HDPE pipes
HDPE pipes are widely used for laying water pipes and pipelines for gas supply systems. Fittings of three types can be used for their installation:
- Cast;
- electro welded;
- compression (crimp).
The first two types are assembled by welding. At the same time, butt welding is used to connect molded fittings to pipes. Electro-welded fittings are mounted by electro-diffusion welding. When molded and electrofusion fittings are installed, a hermetically sealed one-piece connection of high reliability is formed.
Compression fittings are mounted by crimping – collet method. They form a sealed, detachable connection. Installation is carried out using a special key.
The scope of its application depends on the type of fittings. Cast and electrofusion fittings can be used for plumbing and gas installations. Compression fittings are allowed to be used only for the installation of water pipelines, since in gas pipelines any leakage must be categorically excluded.
Fittings for reinforced plastic pipes
Metal-plastic is most often mounted using compression and crimp fittings.
Crimp fittings are the simplest parts that can be easily assembled using a conventional wrench. Their advantage is the possibility of repeated use, since they create detachable connections. This is useful when you need to make changes to the piping configuration, replace the pipe, or perform other repairs.
However, when using compression fittings, it must be borne in mind that they require constant monitoring. Over time, the connection may depressurize and it will be necessary to tighten the nuts. Therefore, this type of fittings is not recommended for hidden pipelines.
Press fittings provide maximum tightness and durability of the joint. They are designed for higher working pressures, which expands their scope. The connection being made is permanent. Therefore, if dismantling is necessary, you will have to cut a section of the pipe together with the fitting.
It should be borne in mind that press fittings differ in a slightly more complex installation, for which special press tongs must be used.
